‘Let Creativity Nourish Your Soul’

Art is a therapy in itself and the creative process is crucial to our holistic well-being, so my next Art Retreat is going to be held on 12-17 April 2018 in the Art Studio of Cortijo Las Salinas, Andalucia where we will find a variety of wonderful ways to unlock our creativity held within and become immersed and inspired as we take an art journey together like no other.

Creativity nourishes the soul, so what better way to discover a personal transformation than through the process of expressive, intuitive painting.  Whether you are a beginner or an experienced artist I will help you to develop confidence and a personal direction in your artwork as you paint in the warm sunshine surrounded by spectacular scenery, landscapes and sunsets.

On retreat for 5 days, together we will start the day with some yoga with Chloe of My Happy Body before breakfast to get the body moving and the creative energies flowing, then we shall begin the workshop in the Art Studio with creative exercises to build confidence, particularly if you have not painted before.
After lunch there is time to siesta before meeting again for some more creative immersion, which will include some creative writing and we will begin a canvas which will develop as your story unfolds over the next few days.

Also included will be gong bath meditations, moon light chanting and fire pit gatherings, amazing and delicious vegetarian meals, a warm twilight jacuzzi, a walk to the river and a trip out to discover the local wild orchids that are in flower at this time of year with many other surprises along the way.

My painting holidays are designed for everyone and non painting partners are also welcome where they can sit by the pool or go for a swim, take a walk or just relax with a book.
You will be amazed to see what you can paint and how you heal when you drop expectations and allow the creative process to unfold. Deep down we are all artists who have whatever it takes to express our inner world through art, the only thing holding us back is the limitations we place upon ourselves.

Places are limited so book today, your investment is £695 per person for shared accommodation or £750 for your own private suite which includes all materials, 3 delicious vegetarian meals per day, complementary teas and coffee, yoga and art tuition.

My Abstract Painting Meets ILU Fitwear Equals Amazing Yoga Clothing Range !

Spring Equinox Spiritual Exploration

I am so proud to have the above painting used for the design on a yoga and fitness clothing range.  The painting was from an abstract collection of work called ‘Spiritual Exploration’ and was originally painted in watercolour on paper.  I had no idea how this would work on a clothing range, but now the range is complete and I am thrilled with the way it looks on this collection.

The collaboration between myself and ILU Fitwear has been an exciting journey to see how artwork can be used in this way and because of the nature of the printing process, each item is different and unique.  It’s like wearing an original piece of art as no two pieces are the same.

Here are some lovely photos of the range, modelled by my daughter Chloe of My Happy Body and photographed by Emma Jacobs Photography. The range can be purchased from either myself directly from Cortijo Las Salinas but if you can’t make it to the cortijo this year then Chloe has some in stock or you can go direct to the ILU Fitwear website.

Kundalini Yoga

In 1968 Yogi Bhajan came to the West and taught Kundalini Yoga openly for the first time in history. He shared a body of teachings to empower the emerging planetary consciousness. For thousands of years, its practice was exclusive to rulers and sages in India for whom it brought greatness and prosperity. He said that the time had come to make this sacred technology available to everyone.

The body of teachings that is Yogi Bhajan’s legacy was holistic, and by no means limited to yoga exercises on a mat. He taught about yogic lifestyle and diet, shared techniques and meditations to become free of addiction and live a ‘Happy, Healthy, Holy’ life. He trained a student to master a yogic healing technique (called Sat Nam Rasayan), and sent him out to teach this to others. His teachings inspired a student to develop an applied system of numerology, to enable healing spiritual conversations (Karam Kriya). And he spent a great deal of his time extensively sharing teachings for women: on valuing being a woman, on the shift of the Age from a male-dominated Piscean Age to the feminine Aquarian Age, on spiritual aspects of pregnancy and raising the next generation to be free and sovereign beings of the Aquarian Age.

If you have ever been curious about Kundalini yoga or want to deepen your knowledge, Kundalini teacher Ram Inderpreet will be coming to Cortijo Las Salinas from 20 – 25 April 2017 and will be bringing her Kundalini expertise and vast knowledge of the subject for a weekend of personal growth and transformation.

Ram Inderpreet has been a passionate teacher of Kundalini Yoga since 2010. She discovered it during a period of serious illness and it brought such remarkable and instant transformation on a physical, mental and spiritual level that she knew she had found her path. She signed up for teacher training after just one class and now trains other yoga teachers as they embark on their own healing journey.

Her teaching invites a deep connection to your soul, allowing you to experience yourself at a different level. This is fun, do-able and transformational yoga that brings strength and flexibility not only to your body, but also to your mind and spirit. Ram Inderpreet’s workshops combine a powerful physical practice with the magic of mantra, sound current, breath and deep meditation, opening a space for profound self-discovery and self-healing. Her retreats offer a joyful dive into the teachings and practices of Kundalini Yoga, the legacy of Yogi Bhajan, whose technology is needed more today than ever before.

Intuitive Art

I have been living my dream of being an artist and I have a wonderful art studio which is large and bright and has lots of space to be creative.  I have been painting for over 20 years, however just recently I wasn’t really feeling very happy or fulfilled with the art I was creating and I was struggling to find new inspiration and ideas even though I am surrounded by beautiful nature.  I tried many things, like simplifying my work to become more abstract, changing the colour palette from my usual colours, and trying to ‘let go’ a bit more to become a bit looser whilst trying to shake off some of my Fine Art training.  Painting had become a big effort and although I like to make a daily connection with my studio my I would find myself procrastinating to avoid the moment of entry due to these creative blocks I was having.  In fact I would even do the ‘chores’ in order to delay the moment of entry.  I was definitely feeling a little stressed and very un-centred.

I then made a chance discovery, something called Intuitive Art or Intuitive Process Painting.  It is an expressive method of creating art whereby you begin with some meditation to clear the mind, say some mantras, do a bit of yoga, play some music, light some inscense and then allow yourself to be free with the paint on the canvas using your hands, feet, and anything but a paintbrush!   There are no rules, no expected outcome, no ego to create blocks whilst thinking ‘it should look like this or like that’, or ‘a certain standard is expected of me’, or ‘I need to be able to sell it!’  You just let your intuition guide you.

It was like being a child again as I used various tools for mark making, experimenting with colours and shapes.  It was so exciting to watch the painting take its own course and direction over a few days, never knowing where things would go.    As the daily layering process continually changed the direction of the painting until finally my intuition told me it was now complete.

Art is a healing therapy and I discovered that this amazing practice is healing on so many levels.  So if you are coming to Cortijo Las Salinas this year to spend some time painting with me, expect something a little different as we paint using our intuition and leave the ego behind.

A Retreat for the Creative Heart

In a few weeks I shall be working, once again,  with 2 wonderful artists here at Cortijo Las Salinas.  Terre Cerridwyn will be flying all the way from California and Alice Mason will be zooming over from Brighton, UK.  We shall be sharing a week of creative art, dance, nature walks, great food, lots of laughs and making the most of the opportunity to explore our creative selves.  This week is open to anyone who wants to join in with something very special, and maybe find out something about the wonderful self we didn’t know.  Terre has a website page with full information and timetable for the week, but for now here are some photos from last year.

3 yoga poses to see off a ‘bad mood’

There are so many postures in yoga that help with depression and mood.  Connecting with the body is an awesome way to find presence, and can help you see a way forward and out of any dark space you may find yourself in, and for whatever reason.

I find that certain poses in particular have a unique energy and mood shifting properties,  my favourites being:

1. Camel pose

Backbends are heart opening and energizing. They are great if you are drowsy at work or are having a hard time waking up in the morning.  Camel, Bridge, and Wheel are all great backbends, but I find Camel to be simultaneously grounding and stabilizing, as well as a huge emotional and energetic release.

2. Pigeon pose

Spending a solid two minutes in Pigeon or King Pigeon on each the right and the left side, breathing with conscious awareness the whole time, is a great way to move stuck energy and relieve tension.

3.  The Bow

The Bow is a wonderful pose that helps boost energy and keep your metabolism burning strong.  Bow also opens up and stretches the front of your body while strengthening your back muscles. Great for a mid afternoon pep-up when energy starts to disappear and you are thinking about a chocolate bar!
